Job Description
The Richmond Times-Dispatch, a Lee Enterprises publication, is seeking a photographer/videographer to cover all facets of life in Richmond, Virginia. The photographer/videographer will work with the newsroom staff and editors in the newsroom to improve visual coverage and help develop story ideas. The ideal candidate has a command of all aspects of photography, including news, sports, portraiture and documentary, is skilled in incorporating video into their visual reporting, and is adept at using social media to reach a wider audience for local news. Candidates must have a record of accuracy and journalistic integrity. Ideally, candidates should have two years of experience working at a newspaper, though internships and/or work on a college newspaper staff may be acceptable.
Responsibilities:
- Works under the direction of a supervisor to cover assigned material.
- Works independently or with other reporters and editors to improve visual content and develop visual story ideas relevant to the community.
- Responds to breaking news as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining company-issued camera equipment and laptop.
- Has a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Microsoft Office and any software specific to photojournalism.
- Must be able to walk or stand for any length of time, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy camera equipment.
Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field.
- Ability to work on tight deadlines and manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Hours include regular night and weekend shifts.
